TIBET OVERLAND: from CHENGDU to EVEREST

Today, we begin the journey westward, covering 450 kilometers from Chengdu to Xinduqiao. En route, we’ll visit the charming Shangli Ancient Town and stop in Kangding, a gateway to Tibetan culture, where you’ll have time to explore Paoma Mountain’s stunning views. Before reaching Xinduqiao, we’ll make a stop at the historic Luding Bridge.

Travel to Batang, passing through the high-altitude town of Litang, one of the highest in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Highlights include a visit to Ke’er Monastery and the vast Maoya Prairie, with its panoramic views. Arrive in Batang (2575m) for the night.

Today, we drive through the Jinsha River Gorge, where you’ll witness the majestic flow of the Jinsha, Lancang, and Nu Rivers.

Travel along the thrilling “72 Turns” of the Nujiang River—an exciting stretch of the G318 Highway. Pass the beautiful Bangda Grassland and cross the Yela Mountain Pass (4650m). We end the day at the scenic Ranwu Lake.

This morning, enjoy the serene beauty of Ranwu Lake before visiting Midui Glacier. We’ll take a short hike to fully experience this remarkable glacier landscape, where snow-capped peaks meet forests and glaciers. Arrive in Bome in the evening.

Explore the stunning landscapes around Bome, with stops at Guxiang Lake and viewpoints of Mt. Namcha Barwa. We’ll continue to the lush Lulang Forest, where you can opt for a short visit to a traditional Tibetan village to learn more about the local lifestyle.

Travel to Lhasa with a visit to the tranquil Basum Tso Lake and its Tsozong Gompa Temple, beautifully set on an island. Arrive in Lhasa in the evening for a restful night.

Immerse yourself in Lhasa’s cultural treasures with a visit to Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street. In the evening, we’ll attend a traditional Tibetan music and dance performance for an authentic taste of Tibetan culture.

Depart Lhasa for Gyantse, passing the shimmering Yamdrok Yumco Lake. We’ll stop for a farm lunch with a local family, visit the Karola Glacier, and explore the rural landscapes of Gyantse before continuing to Shigatse.

Today, we head toward the Himalayas, stopping at Dingri and Gawula viewpoints for breathtaking scenes of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. Arrive at Everest Base Camp, where you’ll have the chance to capture the sunset over Everest, weather permitting.

Wake up early for a sunrise view of Everest. Afterward, visit Rongbuk Monastery before returning to Shigatse via scenic stops at Dingyal and Sakya County. Dinner in Shigatse will include a local song and dance performance.

Enjoy a leisurely morning before your transfer back to Lhasa. This marks the end of your overland adventure through Sichuan and Tibet.
