Novosibirsk is the capital of Siberia. Today we’ll visit some of Siberia’s cultural highlights, including a traditional Russian sauna. An opportunity to watch a ballet performance at the Novosibirsk State Opera.

After breakfast we will board the Transiberian again, heading to Irkutsk. Overnight in the train.

Today we will travel to Olkhon Island, which will take us a good part of the day. Travel by mini-bus and ferry.

Today we explore the island in the traditional Russian UAZ vans, taking short hikes along the island’s incredible slopes. We’ll also have the chance to try traditional fish soup, cooked in the traditional local fashion.
By the end of the day, we will watch sunset by the shamanic rock.

Return to Irkutsk. Walk around the city centre.

In the morning we will board the Transiberian once again. This will be the stretch that has some of the best views of the entire journey, as the train navigates the circum-Baikal part of the railway. Overnight in the train.

Welcome to Mongolia! We arrive early in UlaanBaatar, will check-in to our hotel, and have an easy day.
In the afternoon we will watch a Cultural Show, to immerse ourselves in the traditional Mongolian culture.

We leave the capital early in the morning for Gorkhii-Terelj National Park. Our first visit will be to the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, followed by a visit to the Aryapala Buddhist Meditation Temple. From there we head to the steppes where we will spend the night with a nomadic family in traditional gers (Mongolian yurts).

We spend part of the day getting to know the daily life of Mongolia’s nomadic families, with the possibility of a horse ride through the idyllic landscapes of the National Park. Afterwards we will return to the capital, at the end of the day.

Full day spent in UlaanBaatar, where we’ll visit the Natural History Museum and the Green Lake project, a success story in environmental and cultural sustainability.

Early in the morning, we board the train that will take us to China. At the time of writing this itinerary, the direct train is not yet running – it is estimated that the crossing will reopen in May 2024. In the event that the train is not yet direct, we will travel from UlaanBaatar to the border, cross the border on foot, and board the other train on the China side towards Beijing. This last section of the train takes us through the Gobi Desert to the mountains where we can sometimes catch a glimpse of parts of the Great Wall of China.

We should arrive in Beijing in the afternoon (depending on whether the itinerary is direct or split), still in time to see the city.

The grand finale of this trip closes with a bang, as we explore China’s most iconic site: the Great Wall. We visit one of the most scenic sections, stopping for a traditional lunch in a village about 90 minutes from Beijing.
