small groups, BIG JOURNEYS

Documentary photographer Tânia Neves founded unusual voyages from a simple belief: travel can connect people across cultures and borders.
After years documenting remote communities and leading expeditions, she turned that vision into unusual voyages — a travel concept rooted in empathy, respect, and collaboration with local people.
Each journey reflects this ethos: built with intention, shaped with communities, and designed to inspire understanding while respecting people and planet.
What began as one woman’s search for meaningful encounters has become a collective of travellers, artisans, and changemakers proving that the world truly works better together.

Flights to and from the starting point of the trip are not included, giving you the flexibility to choose the most convenient time and location to fly from.
As for transfers, they are typically included in the tour price if they fall within the official program dates and take place in the city listed in the itinerary. Specific details on included transfers will be outlined in your trip information before departure.
Most of our travellers are solo adventurers, and we arrange twin-share accommodation, pairing you with someone of the same gender. If you prefer your own space, you can opt for a private room by paying a single supplement.
On certain tours, some accommodations are shared, like overnight trains or local stays, and we’ll clearly inform you beforehand.
If your gender identity differs from your passport, contact us so we can discuss your rooming preferences.
While our tours are generally accessible to those with a moderate level of fitness, the immersive nature of our experiences may involve some physically demanding activities.
Expect to walk, hike, or carry your own luggage in less developed areas where comfort may be secondary to adventure.
We’ll provide all the necessary details for each trip, but if you’re uncertain, we can discuss which tours suit your fitness level best.
The best way to prepare is to stay open-minded and respectful. Before your tour, do some research on local customs, traditions, and social norms to avoid unintentional offense. We’ll provide cultural insights in your pre-departure info, but simple things like learning basic phrases, dressing appropriately, and respecting local laws can go a long way.
When in doubt, observe what locals do or ask your tour leader for guidance – they’re there to help you navigate these differences comfortably.
Our guests are diverse, but they all share a passion for immersive travel and a curiosity for culture.
Many are solo travellers, adventurous spirits, photographers, and cultural enthusiasts looking for unique, off-the-beaten-path experiences.
They value meaningful interactions, local authenticity, and enjoy connecting with like-minded people from different walks of life.
Whether travelling solo or with friends, our guests come ready to explore, learn, and make lasting memories in a small group setting.
