Welcome to UlaanBaatar!
A driver will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to your accommodation, where you will meet the rest of the group and the leader of this tour.
UlaanBaatar is a rapidly growing city, no longer just the capital of nomads, it is now a major capital on par with any other Asian city, a growth that has been increasing in recent years.|At the end of the day, we will go to a traditional Mongolian performing arts show, featuring popular dyphonic singing, dancing, theatre and acrobatics – the best way to experience
the culture and arts of this country before you explore it!

Time to leave the city behind.
We hit the road west, through the open steppe, headed to Khögnö Tarna National Park – a place where mountains, sand dunes and grassland collide. You’ll visit a remote monastery ruin and meet local herder families living in traditional gers.
Later, we continue towards Kharkhorin, once the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, known as Karakorum.
🛏️ Accommodation: guesthouse in Kharkhorin

One of Mongolia’s most beautiful national parks.
A long drive north takes us through volcanic landscapes and past yak herders into the heart of Arkhangai Province. We’ll arrive at Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, a huge freshwater lake formed by lava flows, surrounded by extinct volcanoes and forest.
Expect dramatic views, starry skies and silence like nowhere else.

Explore, hike, chill.
Today’s all about enjoying the area. You can hike to the crater of the Khorgo Volcano, ride a horse along the lake, or just relax and soak in the scenery. This is also a good day to get to know the nomadic families hosting us.

Off the beaten track.
We head west again, deeper into Zavkhan Province – one of the least visited regions in Mongolia. Our destination: Telmen Lake, a wild and remote place rarely seen by outsiders. The journey is long, but it’s stunning all the way.
Get ready for vast open spaces, untouched nature and complete disconnection.
🛏️ Accommodation: wild camping or remote ger camp

Sand dunes and secret oasis.
Today we enter a surreal landscape: the Great Dune of Bor Khyariin, rising out of the steppe like a wave of sand. It’s one of Mongolia’s hidden gems – very few travellers make it here.
A short hike will take us to Mukhart Oasis, tucked at the base of the dunes, where a spring creates a green ribbon in the desert. The contrast is unreal.
🛏️ Accommodation: wild camping at the oasis
🍽️ Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Salt lake views for days.
We continue west to Khyargas Lake, a vast saltwater lake that feels like the edge of the world. The lake has dramatic cliffs and strange rock formations, perfect for quiet walks and taking it all in.
This is raw, wild Mongolia at its best.
🛏️ Accommodation: basic local guesthouse or ger camp

Almost in eagle country.
We’re getting close to Bayan-Ölgii Province, home of the Kazakh eagle hunters. But first, we stop at Achit Lake – the largest freshwater lake in the region, surrounded by steppe and backed by snow-capped peaks.
A peaceful place to rest before the festival buzz begins.
🛏️ Accommodation: wild camping near the lake

Welcome to the land of the eagle hunters.
We arrive in Ölgii, the capital of Mongolia’s Kazakh minority. This is a different side of the country – from the language and religion to food and music. You’ll notice the shift as soon as we get there.
We settle in, stretch our legs, and get ready for the main event…
🛏️ Accommodation: local guesthouse in Ölgii
🍽️ Meals: breakfast
The most iconic day of the tour.
We spend the day at the Golden Eagle Festival – the biggest cultural event of the year for Kazakh nomads. Expect competitions in eagle hunting, archery, horsemanship, traditional costume parades and full-blown local pride.
It’s colourful, chaotic, powerful. Cameras out, this is what you came for.

More festival, more action.
The second day of the festival is when the finals happen – and the energy peaks. You’ll witness incredible skill, centuries-old traditions, and community at its core.
After the event ends, we head south to Tolbo Lake, a high-altitude lake surrounded by bare mountains. A peaceful contrast to the buzz of Ölgii.
🛏️ Accommodation: wild camping or ger camp by the lake
🍽️ Meals: breakfast and dinner
Into the Altai Mountains.
We continue into Khövd Province, cutting through dramatic valleys and remote settlements. The landscapes start changing – greener, wilder, framed by the mighty Altai range.
Khövd is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Mongolia – home to various ethnic groups, including Kazakhs, Uriankhai, and Tuvans.
🛏️ Accommodation: guesthouse in Khövd

ERock art and ancient history.
Today we visit the Tsenkheriin Agui (Tsenkher Caves), where you’ll see prehistoric petroglyphs carved into the rock. These caves hold some of the oldest art in Mongolia – and walking through them feels like time travel.
The area is remote, and rarely visited. Bring a torch and your curiosity.
🛏️ Accommodation: local guesthouse or remote ger camp near the caves

The last wild push.
We make our way through the Altai backcountry, stopping in Altai Sum – a small, rugged town lost between mountains and desert. This is a proper road trip day with dusty tracks, river crossings and remote encounters.
It’s one of those days where the journey is the destination.
🛏️ Accommodation: local hotel in Altai Sum

Back to the capital.
Today we catch a domestic flight from the far west of the country back to UlaanBaatar. After two weeks in the wild, the city lights will feel surreal.
Time to recharge, shower properly and maybe do some last-minute shopping.

A meaningful end.
Today we go beyond the surface. We’ll visit some of the community and environmental projects supported through this tour – including a trip to the Green Lake, an urban reforestation initiative on the outskirts of the city.
You’ll get to see how your trip helps support long-term sustainability and local impact in Mongolia.
In the evening, we gather for our final dinner together – one last celebration before parting ways.
